Thank You and Congratulations - Ithaca College Athletics

ITHACA, N.Y. – Today is the final day within the Department of Athletics at Ithaca College for three long-time head coaches and one administrative assistance, as they each announced their plans to retire over the past few months.

"I wish to thank Bill, Jim, Kathy and Paula for everything you have contributed to Ithaca College and the Department of Athletics over the years," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports, Susan Bassett '79. "Your hard work and dedication to our department elevated Ithaca to one of the top athletics programs in Division III. Each of you have mentored countless young men and women to become successful professionals outside of Ithaca College. You have all represented this institution to the highest standard and congratulations on your amazing careers. We look forward to celebrating each of you in person soon."MULLINS 308 WINS

On April 10, men's basketball head coach Jim Mullins announced that he would retire after 23 seasons at the helm of the program. Mullins, the program's all-time winningest coach with 353 victories has been a member of the Ithaca staff since 1992. Mullins served as an assistant coach for five seasons before assuming the role of head coach for the 1997-98 campaign. He played a large role in Ithaca's success during his time as an assistant coach. In his five seasons, the Bombers posted an 86-46 record and earned one NCAA playoff and three ECAC postseason invitations. Since leading the Bombers, Mullins guided Ithaca to the NCAA playoffs six times, including five trips in the past 11 seasons, and a run to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time in program history (2012-13). The 2019-20 program reached the second round after earning the program's first Liberty League title and matched a program record with 24 victories, tying the 2008-09 team.

Austin_Dunn_KusakOn May 21, Bill Austin, the Ithaca College men's and women's tennis head coach for the past 20 seasons, announced that he would retire. Austin guided the tennis programs to more than 400 match victories during the 20-year stretch and 20 combined conference titles – 14 for women, six for men. Austin earned his 200th victory as the men's head coach in 2018-19 and surpassed that milestone on the women's side in 2016-17. He guided the women's program through a prolific run in Empire 8 competition, as the team secured 11 straight Empire 8 Championships in earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament from 2006-07 through 2016-17. Austin led Ithaca to 57 straight wins over Empire 8 opposition from 2004 through 2011, recording the longest conference winning streak in any Empire 8 sport since the league's inception. He was named Empire 8 Coach of the Year four times on the men's side and 11 times on the women's side.miller 1

On June 18, Paula Miller announced her retirement from the women's swimming & diving program after 36 years. She was also a two-time NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, winning that award in 1987 and 1999. Miller, a 2014 Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, concludes her illustrious career with a 334-61-3 (.843) overall dual meet record since taking over the women's program. Over her 36 years at the helm, Miller oversaw 11 undefeated dual seasons, including a string of four straight years (2010-14 – 48 meets) without a loss. Miller coached 78 student-athletes to 496 All-America honors and nine members from her teams are in the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame.
