For high school graduating classes, 2020 has been a year like no other.
Starting in mid-March, the nation’s coronavirus pandemic prompted Minnesota to implement “shelter in place” mandates that included canceling in-school classes for the remainder of the school year and instituting, in its place, distance learning through Zoom technology and other online platforms.
In addition, spring sports got scrubbed and high school proms were canceled. And most significantly, the rite of high school commencement via large mass gatherings in auditoriums, sports stadiums and other venues also gave way to virtual ceremonies.
However, through it all, graduates and their families have been creative. One example: Commencement car parades that have been held in St. Anthony Park and other communities across the Twin Cities. For that resiliency, the Bugle salutes the classes of 2020.
