FAIR LAWN, NJ — As the coronavirus has cancelled traditional graduations, schools, parents and students have taken to social media to share messages of congratulations with graduates.
Yesterday, videos began to circulate on Facebook as students arrived at Fair Lawn High School to obtain their diplomas.
In one video, a small red carpet was rolled out for graduates, but they didn't walk on it, rather, their diploma was handed to them through a car window.
Fair Lawn High School also uploaded end of year awards presentations to the school's YouTube channel, including Senior Recognition, College Apparel Day and Senior Scholarship Awards Night.
Understanding that the changes in tradition leave the class of 2020 with a different end-of-high school experience than most, Fair Lawn High School took to Twitter to recruit a favorite graduate from years past, Regina Spektor.
Spektor, a critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter who grew up in New York City, finished her final two years of high school in Fair Lawn after attending The Frisch School in Paramus.
In a June 4 tweet, the school reached out to see if Spektor would participate in graduation.

Spektor responded Wednesday with a tweet of her own, offering congratulations to the class of 2020.

She was a member of the Boptones, a Fair Lawn High School band formed by Howard Friedman in 1985.
