Ke Huy Quan's Goonies Co-Stars Gave Congratulations for His Oscar Win - CBR - Comic Book Resources

Ke Huy Quan's co-stars from The Goonies gave congratulations to the actor on his Oscars win.

Following his Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor for 2022's Everything Everywhere All at Once, Quan told Entertainment Weekly how a number of his fellow castmates from Richard Donner's 1985 adventure classic congratulated him on his special moment. Among the Goonies stars who expressed excitement for Quan were Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton. "I love all of them so much. Every single one of them was so happy," Quan said. "We're family forever. Goonies never say die."

Out of all the stars celebrating Quan's Oscar win, no one could be any prouder than Jeff Cohen, who played the iconic role of The Goonies' Chunk. Quan singled out Cohen during his Oscar acceptance speech as the former child star-turned-attorney helped him land his role in Everything Everywhere All at Once. "When the producer of [Everything Everywhere All at Once] was trying to make my deal, he said he never imagined that he'd have to talk to Chunk and Data for his movie," Quan said, before describing Cohen as an "outstanding lawyer."

Ke Huy Quan's Hollywood Return

The celebration of Quan's Oscar win is not just limited to his Goonies cast. His Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom co-star Harrison Ford shared an emotional hug at the end of the ceremony after Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Picture. The moment went viral almost immediately on social media and made Indiana Jones fans' hearts soar.

As a child actor, Quan earned universal fame for his performances as Short Round in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in 1985's The Goonies. After appearing in the last two seasons of ABC's Head of the Class and a small role opposite recent Oscar winner Brendan Fraiser in 1992's Encino Man, Quan largely disappeared from acting due to a lack of opportunities for Asian actors and turned to stunt work in Hong Kong cinema. But the massive success of 2018's Crazy Rich Asians inspired him to get back in front of the camera.

"It was really then that I said, 'Ah, maybe I should try acting again,'" Quan said. "I was 49, about to turn 50, and I was so worried that I’d reach my 60s and look back and have regrets. So I had a conversation with my wife: 'Should I do this?' As you all know, it’s tough to be an actor. You’re rejected again and again. It’s OK to face those rejections when you’re younger, but to do that when you’re a middle-aged man is something else."
