The schools of St. Dominic held its middle and high school graduations on June 27 under sunny skies. Although the graduations went on like it always has for the past 95 years there were a couple of minor changes. Only two guests per family were allowed and the wearing of masks was required.
The graduates were permitted to take them off when they took a photograph with Msgr. Tom Coogan and Principal Ron Martorelli.
Students were surprised with a gift, a class blanket, that was placed on their assigned seats when they arrived.
Brandon Humbert, the high school Valedictorian, and Makela Flannigan, the salutatorian, addressed their Class of 2020 with hope for the future and a friends for life theme that was surrounded by the faith they shared.
Dean Peduto, valedictorian of the middle school, gave a speech on his memories shared with classmates and staff for the past 11 years. He said he would never forget his classmates and teachers. St Dominic was Peduto’s home away from home.
Tom Volberg, a 2011 alumnus and Colleen Gallick, who graduated from St. Dominic High School in 2010, addressed the Class of 2020. They spoke about when they met, in 9th grade on the first day of school to the food drives they experienced together for four years. That told graduates that even though their senior year was cut short the graduates would always have the bond of St Dominic to share.
