Congratulations and hearty good wishes to George H. Warren (seen at center receiving a cake for his 99th birthday during last year’s Annual Meeting). He recently celebrated his 100th birthday.
The son of our longtime President Katherine Warren and her husband, George, he was 25 when they founded the Preservation Society 75 years ago!
George is a Harvard graduate, an architect by profession and a staunch advocate of historic preservation. He holds a special place in the Preservation Society: 18 years as a member of the Board of Trustees, including service as vice chairman and on several committees; co-chair of the 2006 Annual Fund; recipient of the 2005 Laurel Award for Volunteerism; and 2019 recipient of our highest honor, the Antiquarian Award.
And, as former Board Chairman John J. Slocum Jr. once said, "George Warren was the single most important person – on or off the Board – in our purchase of the Isaac Bell House" in 1994.
Truly he has carried on his family’s legacy of preserving Newport’s heritage, for which we will always be grateful.
