Congratulations to the Class of 2020, you have so much to celebrate - San Bernardino County Sun

I know it’s not how you planned to end your senior year and while we feel your pain, it was impossible to be in compliance with the rules and have the traditional graduation that you were looking forward to celebrating with family and friends.

“Though no one can go back and make a brand new start … anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending,” the words of Carl Bard say it well.

You are being commended for being brave graduates and your community will continue to be supportive, while encouraging you to focus on life after high school and your future. But never forget those wonderful memories you shared with your classmates, other students, teachers and staff members.

There are many challenges you will encounter, but as you became frustrated, shocked, and uncomfortable with the challenges of coronavirus, you managed to bounce back and continue your education in a way you never dreamed. You did it and you did it with honor, respect and dedication.

As you were coping with distance learning and the pandemic, another challenge was placed before you, giving you the opportunity to take a look at social justice. Perhaps this is the new normal that we are asking you to resolve, but know that we are confident that you will use your knowledge and wisdom to get us beyond these challenges and to a place where we, all citizens, can enjoy a better United States of America.

You are the ones who can make a new beginning as you look forward to your new endeavors.

Yes, many of you will attend college near and far, while others will begin their careers. There will also be those of you who will join the Armed Forces and make a difference throughout the world.

It feels good knowing that the Class of 2020 will be joining others to find solutions to transformation of lives in ways we never thought.

I do not know the author of this quote, however, I support its content: “Allowing yourself to believe that even this chaos has a purpose, allows you to take a step back and look at your life more closely. It allows you to pick at the things that do have meaning and do make sense. This makes you create better decisions in the future and gives you renewed motivation and purpose to go forward.”

Congratulations again, Class of 2020!  Go forward and make a difference.
