Congratulations Coronado High School Class of 2020 - Coronado Times Newspaper

Submitted by Gene Thomas Gomulka

One should not be surprised that the San Diego County Health Department issued a cease and desist order in regard to the planned graduation gathering in Spreckels Park [Editor’s Note: the gathering was to be held at the CHS Niedermeyer Field] honoring the Coronado High School graduating class of 2020.

Had CUSD officials billed it as a demonstration promoting racial equality which we all know is a major problem in our community; had they also promised to loot a few businesses on Orange Avenue and set fire to a Coronado Police Department cruiser, then I’m sure the County Health Department would have approved the event. Unlike churchgoers and people who want to safely gather to celebrate the achievements of law abiding and exemplary citizens like our graduates, demonstrators, rioters, and looters seem to be excluded from following state and county imposed gathering orders.

Nevertheless, congratulations Coronado High School Class of 2020. We the residents of Coronado salute you and join your family and friends in wishing you success and happiness in your future endeavors.
