ISRO chief S Somanath on Wednesday congratulated the people of the country on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and said, "Indian is on the moon".
"India is on the Moon", S Somanath said as Chandrayaan-3 lander module Vikram made a safe and soft landing on the Moon.
Hailing his team-mates on the achievement, ISRO chairman S Somnath further said, "Thank you everyone for the support...We learned a lot from our failure, and today we succeeded. We are looking forward to the next 14 days from now for Chandrayaan-3."
Officials at India's space agency ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru broke into applause after the Vikram began its powered vertical descent towards its landing site.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is attending the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg watched the live telecast and as soon as the touchdown happened he sported a big smile and waved the tricolour.
BJP president J P Nadda hailed ISRO scientists and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for Chandrayaan-3's successful landing on the moon, asserting the world now recognises India as a power in space technology.
India is creating new feats of success under Modi's leadership and carving a unique identity for itself, he said and described the success of the mission as true to the mantra of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
The success was not possible without Modi's tireless efforts and the immense ability of our scientists. It is a historic and unprecedented achievement, Nadda said.
"We heartily praise PM Modi for bringing about this unforgettable moment," he added.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, talked about the significance of the moment, asserting, "Proud moment for every Indian and a momentous milestone in India’s space & technology journey. Congratulations to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and team ISRO. This will inspire generations."
Here are some reactions to the occasion:

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said, "Congratulations to Team ISRO for today's pioneering feat."
"Chandrayaan3's soft landing on the uncharted lunar South Pole is the result of decades of tremendous ingenuity and hard work by our scientific community," Gandhi said.
He said since 1962, India's space program has continued to scale new heights and inspire generations of young dreamers.
Meanwhile, the Vice-President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, also congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the successful launch of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
In a Tweet, the Vice-President said:
"Congratulations to the team at #ISRO for the historic launch of Chandrayaan-3! This extraordinary feat highlights the advancement the country has made in space science & research. This milestone in India's stellar space journey makes every Indian proud!"
Industrialist Anand Mahindra said, "From the dawn of humankind we have gazed at the moon and let it work its magic on our minds. The moon turned us into dreamers. Today, magic & science merge and having the moon in our grasp will spark new dreams in the minds of 1.4 billion Indians. Jai Hind."
Meanwhile, Vedanta’s chairman Anil Agarwal shared a video from the celebrations at ISRO.
“Chand ko kehdo hum aa gaye… Truly a special moment for every Indian! I bow down to our scientists at ISRO for making every Indian proud. This is India’s time to shine in science and technology,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, cinema personalities, including, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jr NTR and Sunny Deol, also congratulated the country and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the historic achievement of Chandrayaan-3's landing on the moon.
In his X post, Kumar said a billion hearts were saying thank you to ISRO.
"You've made us so proud. Lucky to be watching India make history. India is on the moon, we are over the moon. #Chandrayaan3," the "OMG 2" star wrote.
Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, who recently said she will watch Chandrayaan-3 land on the moon's surface with her children, said she was a proud Indian today.
"What an amazing and stellar touchdown! Proud proud proud!" Kareena captioned her Instagram Story as she shared ISRO's post.
Harking back to the popular dialogue from his 2001 film "Gadar", actor-MP Deol said: "What a proud moment. #Hindustanzindabad tha hai or rahega."
Deol, who is enjoying the box office success of his latest release "Gadar 2", congratulated ISRO on the feat.
"A momentous feat in the history of India's space exploration. Proud!!!" he posted on X.
"Feeling incredibly joyful and proud," tweeted Kajol.
India scripted history as ISRO's ambitious third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module (LM) touched down on the lunar surface on Wednesday, making it only the fourth country to reach the milestone, and first to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.
Hrithik Roshan said his heart swelled with pride a little more today as he witnessed "my people soar high and give their very best".
"Congratulations & all my respect to @isro & the geniuses behind #Chandrayaan3's lunar exploration mission. #IndiaOnTheMoon," Roshan tweeted.
Manoj Bajpayee said it is a historic day for every Indian.
"... a moment of pride and belief that we can reach for the stars, the moon and beyond. Proud! #ISRO," "The Family Man" star wrote.
Chiranjeevi described the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 a "momentous achievement for India", quipping that a holiday on the Moon may not be a distant dream now.
"#Chandrayaan3 registers an unprecedented and spectacular success!!! History is Made today!! I join over a Billion proud Indians in celebrating and congratulating our Indian scientific community!! This clearly paves the way for more invaluable discoveries on the Moon and more scientific missions in days to come," the veteran star wrote on the microblogging site.
"My heartiest congratulations to @ISRO on a successful soft landing of #Chandrayaan3 mission on the surface of the moon. As always, you are the pride of India," wrote "RRR" star Jr NTR.
Devgn said he was "proud, amazed, excited, and honoured" to be living this moment of history.
"Bharat Mata Ki Jai. #Chandrayaan3 @isro," he posted on X.
And finally, the South Pole opens up for humankind, declared Mohanlal.
"Congratulations to every scientist, technician and staff member of @isro on getting #Chandrayaan3 to touch history at the Moon's South Pole! Here's to curiosity, persistence and innovation that have made a whole nation proud! Jai Hind!" he tweeted.
Actors Sidharth Malhotra and Kartik Aaryan also thanked ISRO for giving a "proud and historic moment" to Indians.
"What a proud moment for the nation! Thank u @isro.in!" wrote Vijay Varma on his Instagram Stories.
Prasoon Joshi, lyricist and CBFC chairperson, shared a Hindi poem on the landmark achievement.
"Congratulations @isro on #Chandrayaan3Landing . Our scientists' ingenuity and dedication humbles and inspires. Jai Hind. #Chandrayaan3," Joshi captioned his post.
