Stars outside the baseball world were all over the news that Yankees icon Derek Jeter was elected to the Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Late Wednesday, Major League Baseball tweeted a video with a ton of celebrities — and big-time baseball names — congratulating the five-time World Series champion and current Marlins owner.
Carmelo Anthony: You know, and I know, as well as the world knows, it was only a matter of time. Keep inspiring. Keep motivating. Keep paving the way. I appreciate you. Nothing but respect.
Larry David: Hello! I’m Larry David, and I just wanted to congratulate Derek Jeter. I was a tremendous shortstop when I was younger and if not for years of fruitless standup and unemployment, you might have been giving this speech for me. Who knows. Life’s full of ironies, isn’t it?
Nas: Just sending love to Derek Jeter, the captain, for a great career, for making historic moments in New York happen.
Mike Trout: Derek, just wanted to congratulate you on on getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. Growing up, you were a role model to me. Still, to this day, I try to emulate how you carry yourself on and off the field. Just like I said, I just wanted to give you huge congrats.
Victor Cruz: I just wanted to congratulate you on a well-deserved induction into the Hall of Fame. Your career, everything you’ve done, everything you’ve accomplished, I’ve tried to emulate in my career. Aaron Judge: Derek, congratulations on your election into the Hall of Fame. What a career. What an inspiration you’ve been to so many young players out there and to this younger generation. You always played teh game right and motivated even me as a kid to go out there and play my best, no matte the situation.
Michael Strahan: Hey, DJ. It’s your man, Michael Strahan here. I just wanted to congratulate you on being a Hall of Famer. You more than deserve it. You’re a Hall of Famer on the field, off the field in everything you do, man. I’m proud of you. Enjoy this because you deserve every bit of it. You worked for every bit of it.
David Cone: I’ll never forget the day you had on your first day as the starting shortstop of the New York Yankees and 20 years later you never slowed down. You’re one of the greatest to ever play the game, without a doubt, and you are one of the most even-keeled, turn-the-page type player I’ve ever been around. Congratulations on making the Hall of Fame, brother.
