Coaching Highlights

• 13th-year head coach Ken Niumatalolo has led the Midshipmen to an 100-62 (.617) record and is the program's all-time winningest coach.

•He is the fastest in school history to reach 50 wins, earning his 50th victory in 2013 against Temple in what was his 81st career game.

• He is one of eight active coaches that is the all-time winningest coach at their respective school.  

• He is the 10th-longest tenured head coach in the FBS taking over the head job at Navy on Dec. 8, 2007.  

• Member of the Navy coaching staff that directed Navy to 11 Commander-In-Chief's Trophies over the last 16 years and 15 bowl games over the last 17 years

• His six bowl wins are the most in school history and he is the only coach at Navy to win three consecutive bowl games. 

• In Navy's first two years as a member of the American Athletic Conference, he led the Mids to a share of the AAC West Division title (2015) and won the AAC West title outright in year two (2016).  Navy tied for the AAC West Division title again in 2019.

• Has led Navy to five Top 25 wins in his tenure, which is the second-most in school history.  Eddie Erdelatz beat 10 Top 25 teams from 1950-58.

•Navy was ranked in the Associated Press poll for three-straight years (2015-17) for the first time since 1958-60.

• First coach to lead Navy to a bowl game in his inaugural season as a head coach.

• First coach to lead Navy to a bowl game in each of his first three seasons as a head coach.

•First Service Academy coach to win the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy in each of his first two years as a head coach.

• Led Navy to an 8-5 record in 2008, the most wins by a first-year coach at Navy since 1934.

• Guided Navy to a 24-17 win over No. 16 Wake Forest in 2008, the Mids' first win over a team ranked in the Associated Press top 25 since 1985. 

• Won a school-record 11 games in 2015 and again in 2019.    

• Led Navy to a 23-21 win over No. 19 Notre Dame in South Bend on Nov. 7, 2009. It was the first time since 1936 that an unranked Navy team defeated a ranked Notre Dame squad.  

• Led Navy to a 45-20 victory over #15 Memphis in 2015, the Mids first win over a Top 15 opponent since 1984 and the Mids first win over a Top 15 opponent on the road since 1974.

• Led Navy to a 46-40 victory over #6 Houston in 2016, Navy's first win over a Top 10 opponent since 1984.

• Is the first coach to lead Navy to wins against a Top 15 opponent in back-to-back years since Eddie Erdelatz in 1956-57.

•Joins Eddie Erdelatz (1956-57) and Hall of Fame coach Wayne Hardin (1960-61) as the only coaches in school history to beat Notre Dame in back-to-back years.

•Tied with Hardin for most wins against Notre Dame (three).

• The only coach in the history of the Army-Navy game to start his career 8-0 against the rival Service Academy.   

• He is 9-3 (.750) all-time against Navy's biggest rival, Army West Point, and is the first head coach in the history of the Army-Navy game to win his first eight games against the rival service academy.   

• His nine wins against the Black Knights are the most in Army-Navy history for either school.  His seven wins against Air Force are the most by a Nvay coach in the Navy-Air Force series.

• Member of the Navy coaching staff that directed the Mids to 15 straight wins over rivals Air Force and Army from 2002-09.

• Member of the Navy coaching staff that defeated Army 14 consecutive years.

•The second Polynesian head coach in Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) history and the first Samoan collegiate head coach on any level. Member of the inaugural class for the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.
