Rob Lowe is reminding the world to make sure you’re sending your texts to the correct contact.
On a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Lowe revealed that he mistakenly sent a message of congratulations for winning a Golden Globe meant for Robert Downey Jr. to Bradley Cooper.
It was a major faux pas when you consider that Cooper was nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for Maestro and lost the Golden Globe to Cillian Murphy for his role as the title character in Oppenheimer.
Downey Jr. also won a Supporting Actor Golden Globe for his role in Oppenheimer.
“Downey does this amazing acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, and I’m so excited for him so I text him, ‘So glad you won. That is the most beautiful acceptance speech I’ve heard in a long time. Boy, do you deserve it,’” Lowe told Kimmel. “I hit it and I realize, ‘Oh sh--. I just sent that to Bradley Cooper.’”
The 9-1-1: Lone Star actor tried to make things better by explaining his mistake to Cooper. “I said, ‘No, no, I meant that for Robert Downey Jr,’” Lowe said. “Now that’s even worse! I made the guy feel worse! It was terrible.”
“Does [Cooper] think you’re crazy?” Kimmel asked.
“He literally said, ‘No, no, no. It’s fine. I like living vicariously through these mistakes,’” Lowe recalled.
Downey Jr. also likely took it in stride, since he and Lowe have been friends since the ‘80s. “Downey and I went to high school together,” Lowe told Kimmel. “In our junior year we had history together.”
“You went to Handsome High,” joked Kimmel.
“Small class,” Lowe fired back, “just the two of us.”
