Trustee Dan Micciche: Thanks and congratulations to the staff! - Advocate Media

Peter Morrissey— Alex Sanger Preparatory School School, Choice / Magnet Category Finalist

Now that the 2020-2021 school year has come to a close, I’d like to take a look back to thank and recognize the teachers and staff who have stood out this year as leaders and top performers in the district.

Congratulations are in order for Sandra Barrios-Rojas, principal at Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School, who was one of the finalists for Principal of the Year. Under her leadership, Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School earned an “A” campus designation from the Texas Education Agency. Located in the center of Dallas’ refugee and immigrant community, the school has a diverse student population, with students who come from 50 countries worldwide. The students and teachers collectively speak more than 25 languages.

As a first-generation Mexican American born to immigrant parents, Barrios-Rojas views education as a calling rather than a job or career. She is one of 10 recipients of the national Terrell H. Bell Award for Outstanding Leadership from the U.S. Department of Education. And she is pursuing a doctoral degree in superintendency at the University of Texas.

Bryan Adams Principal Ryan Bott and Bayles Elementary Principal Gloria Kennedy were also singled out among the 21 nominees who were considered for the Principal of the Year Award, for their leadership, commitment and continued work on behalf of their students.

Equally deserving of congratulations is Peter Morrissey, a general education and English as a Second Language teacher at Alex Sanger Preparatory School, who was a finalist for the Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year Award. Morrissey is in his 17th year as an educator in Dallas and is also very involved in Student Activities as the Campus Activities Coordinator, working with teachers and the community to ensure that his campus provides a variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities for all students. He was born and raised in Dallas and is a product of Dallas ISD. With hard work and determination, he achieved the goal of higher education and tries to instill that in his students daily.

Everyone in District 3 extends sincere congratulations and appreciation to all the Campus Teachers of the Year in District 3 schools. Your work and dedication are inspiring, and you make a difference every day. To see the list of Teachers of the Year from District 3 schools, visit www.dallasisd.org/toy.

We also send our thanks to all the teachers and staff who are retiring from our schools after many years of service. The children of Dallas ISD and District 3 have benefited from your tireless work and dedication. We wish you all the very best in the next stage of your lives.

Dallas ISD Trustee Dan Micciche, District 2
