Tomorrow we come together as a community to celebrate the graduation of a special group of students, most of whom have been in the Bourne Public Schools since they were in kindergarten.
They were the second class to have its senior year at Bourne High School affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
In next Friday’s paper we will include a graduation supplement with plenty of photos and stories about the Class of 2021.
In an interview with the Enterprise, senior class president Gracie Healey defined her graduating class as “most notable for their dedication to their own success, continuance of motivation through challenging virtual-learning platforms, and awareness to the world around them.”
“The Class of 2021, both in Bourne High and elsewhere, overcame adversity in many ways I think that were both personal and shared throughout this past year,” Gracie said. “The pandemic brought a lot of abrupt and loose ends to some things that many of us poured our hearts into—Drama Festival, sports teams, academics and clubs, et cetera, and changed the trajectory of the typical high school experience. It isn’t easy by any means to teach or learn in a virtual format, and coming to the end of this year having accomplished all of that I think is the highest example of overcoming adversity for this class of students.”
We definitely agree.
Congratulations and good fortune to all the graduating seniors and their families!
