Receiving admissions decisions can be a nerve-wracking and difficult process for students and their families and making the decision where to go isn’t easy either. For some families, it can also be difficult to navigate all the new resources, information, and tasks needed before their student’s freshmen year. In this blog, I will discuss why I chose NC State and compile a list of helpful resources for you and your student(s).
Coming from a small town, and only graduating with about 60 other students, I always wanted to attend a larger school. The student body is huge, and every student is a proud member of the Wolfpack. I love the sense of community at NC State, making friends here has been so easy and it’s never difficult to find someone with common interests.
When considering schools, I thought about the location. I didn’t want to be too far away from home. Raleigh is about two hours away from my home, a perfect distance from home. Additionally, I am a Political Science and French double major, so Raleigh, the state capital, was perfect for me, and the French program at NC State is exceptional! There are plenty of Study Abroad opportunities and NC State also hosts many French exchange students, which allowed me to connect with the French culture and improve my language proficiency. Not only is NC State University great for my majors, but also for STEM and business majors, as Raleigh is home to the Research Triangle Park and many businesses. Outside of academics, there are a lot of things to do in Raleigh, such as visiting parks and museums or engaging in other activities.
When I committed to NC State, I was overwhelmed by all the resources and things I needed to do. The resource that helped me the most was the New Student Checklist. It told me everything I needed to complete, and when to complete it. If your student(s) is a Spring Connect student like me, there is a separate Checklist for Spring Connect students. Admissions, Housing, Dining, and the Wolfpack One Card Office also have a helpful list of FAQs, should you have any questions. If your question is not answered in the FAQs, always feel free to reach out to those offices, or the Office of Parents and Families!
In all, I am very happy at NC State, and I hope your student(s) decide to call it home too! Regardless of what they decide, congratulations, and I hope this blog was helpful!
GO PACK!
