Congratulations to the UC Master Gardener Class of 2022 - Sierra News Online

By Tery Susman.

We are proud to introduce the new ‘crop’ of UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County, Class of 2022! We graduated on May 13th after 17 weeks of extensive training both online and in-person. We had weekly zoom lectures on everything related to horticulture, from below the ground, up! We learned how roots, shoots, soil, water, insects, weeds, and even fire all play an important role in plant propagation, gardening, forest management and conservation.

Twice a month we met at the Amigo Stage at the fairgrounds for live demonstrations and the hands-on application of what we were learning. Did we get dirty…yes! Did we have fun…yes! Did we discover amazing things about plant parts, plant families, soil composition, oak and pine trees, fire behavior and so much more…YES!

Now we are ready to join the master, UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County in reaching out to promote: Healthier Plants, a Healthier Environment, Healthier Gardens and Gardeners, and building a Healthier Community!

These are the UC Master Gardener Program goals and we bring them to life right here in Mariposa County. You will find us at the Wednesday Farmer’s Market, the Creek Demonstration Garden, hosting the Spring and Fall Plant Sales, at the Mariposa Butterfly Festival and the Fair, answering your questions on the Helpline, on the radio, teaching children about gardening at the School Garden and just around town!

If you see one of us, come say ‘hi’ and if you have a plant, pest, soil, pruning, or invasive weed question, ask us. We will help find the answer!

A special Thank You, to Sheri Mace and Julie Richard for their excellent instruction and training, their wealth of knowledge and their unwavering support and guidance over the last 5 months!
