Congratulations to the South Side Sox Hall of Fame Class of 2021: [sad trombone] - South Side Sox

Well, just because it was anticipated doesn’t make it any fun.

For the first time in the 11 years of the South Side Sox Hall of Fame voting, we have elected zero candidates from our regular Cooperstown ballot. The fewest prior inductees was way back in 2012, when Barry Larkin was enshrined all by his lonesome.

SSS voters averaged 8.28 choices per ballot (up from 8.04 last year at South Side Hit Pen); with still well more than 10 worthy players, a healthy list is a wise direction to take with your HOF ballots.

Here are the full results from this year’s voting, with the voting trend from 2019 to 2020 when applicable.

Mark Buehrle had an extraordinary debut in the voting, and who knows, might see proper induction from SSS in his active ballot time. There were other inspiring leaps from some players already on the ballot, including Todd Helton (+21%), Manny Ramirez (a somewhat puzzling +17%) and Scott Rolen (+18%).

Meanwhile, Barry Bonds (+2%), Roger Clemens (-5%) and Curt Schilling (-20%) face huge obstacles for their final year (2022) on the ballot. Other big drops came from Trevor Hoffman (-15%), Omar Vizquel (-6%) and Billy Wagner (-6%).

Next year will also be complicated by the addition of two strong (but not uncontroversial) candidates: Alex Rodriguez and David Ortíz. And two old White Sox friends, A.J. Pierzynski and Jake Peavy, will be eligible for the first time.

Thanks to all who voted, and stay tuned early next week for our final phase of Hall of Fame voting, the most fun one of all: the fourth annual White Sox Hall of Fame!
