Currituck County was represented well by the Currituck 4-H Horse Bowl teams which recently traveled to Raleigh, NC to compete in the State 4-H Horse Bowl competition held at NC State on March 12, 2022.
The 4-H Horse Bowl Contest is designed to offer an opportunity for youth interested in horses to display the knowledge they have gained in a competitive and friendly atmosphere. Additionally, it is designed to encourage youth and leaders to study and obtain a more thorough and complete knowledge of horses and related subject matter.
Currituck County had two teams competing in the Mixed Team Division. This division had 10 teams competing in a 5 round, double elimination contest.
The Currituck teams were made up of largely new members with only three returning members, yet still placed 5th and 7th in the contest. Members of the Currituck County teams were Sori Suthers, Megan Armstrong, Lia Suthers, Izzy Cox, Poppy Wright, Elijah Campbell, Amanda Jennings, Karleigh Meads and Ryleigh Vance. Sori Suthers placed 1st overall and Elijah Campbell placed 7th overall.
Both of these outstanding members were invited to try out for the NC 4-H State Horse Bowl Team which will compete in Regional and National competitions later this year.
The Currituck Horse Bowl teams were coached by 4-H Program Assistant and Currituck County Rural Center Director Tom Harrell, and 4-H volunteers Heather Campbell and Teresa Armstrong. For questions or more information please contact Tom Harrell at tpharrell@ncsu.edu or Sherry Fischlschweiger at slfischl@ncsu.edu or by calling 252-232-2262.
