We extend heartfelt congratulation to pastor Gilford Monrose on his appointment to Head the New Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnership, the new office recently created by Mayor Eric Adams.
We commend Mayor Adams for his vision in pulling together this new Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnership, the OFCP, an office to coordinate the activities of the faith-based community in the City, to bring about an understanding, and for people to work together and to have fundamental partners in how you would work on a day to day basis.
An office that augurs well to help to bring about healing and unity within the community. The Mayor could not have made a better choice than Pastor Gilford Monrose who had previously served the Mayor in the office of Brooklyn Borough President as Faith Director in the Brooklyn Borough President’s office.
Pastor Monrose’s Community activity is well known across the City and the State, and yes, indeed, the nation; he is known for the very dynamic 67th Police Precinct Clergy Council which is now known as the God Squad, for the work that they have done with respect to the gun violence and community protection and security, and also for the Brooklyn center for quality of life.
And so with that background and as lead pastor for Mount Zion Church of God In Brooklyn, Pastor Monroe brings to it, the skills, the dedication, and the kind of commitment that is needed to have people working together in the best interest of the city.
This appointment and office signal that Mayor Eric Adams is prepared to work with all communities to develop strong and enduring partnerships and to find the kind of people that will come to the table and make a difference. a difference in the important work that needs to be done in helping vulnerable New Yorkers, and to engage communities in addressing some of the problems that the City faces, from gun violence to hate crimes, and to bring about a positive sense of community work within the City.
Pastor Monrose was born in the US Virgin Islands to St. Lucian parents from and his credential as a Caribbean American activist in this City is well-known with one that reaches across all lines and barriers to do his work in a faith-based community. And so we welcome and congratulate this Caribbean American to the leadership of the New York City Council, a new office, and pledge to work with him to make this office a success, and this City a work to be admired.
