Henrik Lundqvist called it a career on Friday and players, fans and teams took to social media to throw their bouquets to the man nicknamed The King.
Lundqvist played 15 seasons, all for the New York Rangers, before an attempt to play for the Washington Capitals last season was stopped by a heart condition that required surgery.
He won 459 games, the 6th most in NHL history. The Swedish-born Lundqvist is also the only non-Canadian in the top 10.
Only seven goalies have played more than his 887 games. He finishes his career with 91.8 save percentage (10th all-time) and a 2.43 goals-against average a (25th). He won the Vezina Trophy in 2012.
Lundqvist himself shared an emotional letter on social media.
The Rangers posted an extensive tribute video.
Along with the video the Rangers wrote: "All our love, Henrik. Thank you for being everything it means to be a New Yorker, a Ranger, a teammate, a legend."
The NHL shared a video of teammates and opponents discussing what made Lundqvist such a great player.
Plenty of others, from contemporaries like retired goalie Roberto Luongo and Philadelphia Flyers goalie Brian Elliott to former Rangers teammates Michael Grabner and Jacob Trouba, shared their congratulations on a brilliant career.
